I just realized that February was National Time Management month. Thank heavens – I managed to mention time in last month’s newsletter without even knowing this. Of course February was a lot of other things as well. Library Lovers Month, Black History Month, and I confess I was intrigued to read that it was also Aggressive Driving Month. Now how exactly is that commemorated? Can you tell that I have been spending far too much time online lately? Our March topic is Chronic Disorganization, Hoarding and some current thinking about these issues. A&E’s “The Hoarding Show” is on the lips of so many people that I finally watched it. The fear I had was that so called “Clean Sweeps” wouldn’t teach the clients any sort of personal awareness. It is so crucial for the chronically disorganized and hoarders to learn about their OWN decision making processes. This can’t happen if a team of people sweep in and haul everything out to a dumpster. So I was glad to see that... []
Let’s assume that you’ve heard about meditation, and that it can be a helpful skill. I think we can also figure that many of you have some ideas about how hard it might be to sit still , much less make it a habit. What after all, will it really DO for us? Most people agree that serenity and calmness would be a good thing to cultivate, but there are a lot of other benefits, specifically for people with ADD! Studies have shown that these include: • Improving attention, impulse control; problem solving; and organizational skills. • Better academic performance and work skills. • Reducing stress, anxiety and anger. A common misconception about meditation is that the goal is stop your thoughts. Let me assure you right now that this not the expectation. Yes, advanced mediators do experience a feeling that time has stopped, and yes the mind will quiet down, but this is a gradual and lifelong practice.
